What does the course involve:

Learners should have an interest in a wide range of areas connected to sport performance, sport analysis, exercise, active lifestyles, careers in sport and theoretical aspects of anatomy and physiology. Learners should be able to perform at competition standard in both an individual and team sport, and be committed to working independently.

Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology (Year 1)

Learners will gain knowledge and understanding of how the skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, energy and respiratory systems function, and react to exercise. The knowledge gained is fundamental to the whole award and underpins many components across both the internal and external units. Externally assessed by a written exam of 1 hour 30 mins, 80 marks.

Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (Year 2)

Learners will develop a wide range of knowledge and understanding of client screening and lifestyle assessment. Developing knowledge of nutritional and fitness needs will offer learners the opportunity to conduct fitness programming for various clients. Learners will apply their learnt knowledge, skills and understanding to support improvements in a client’s health and well-being. Synoptic unit, externally assessed by a written exam of 2 hours 30 mins, 60 marks.

Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry (Year 2)

17%

Learners will gain a wide range of knowledge of career pathways in the sports industry. They will develop many of the key skills required by researching specific roles, analysing their own skill set and considering a career plan. In addition, learners will have the opportunity to prepare for, experience and evaluate a series of interview activities. Written assignments, practical activities, internally assessed.

Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance (Year 1)

17%

Research and analysis of the rules and regulations, skills, techniques and tactics relevant for selected sports. Learners should be able to perform to a competitive standard in an individual and team sport. They will have the opportunity to undertake a range of practical, research and analysis tasks. Written assignments, practical activities, internally assessed.
