Module 1: Art and Design Coursework
60%
This module requires students to develop their understanding of the expressive nature of the formal elements (colour, line, tone, pattern, form, shape and texture) of Art and Design. Students will undertake a visual study, researching the work of artists, designers and craft workers across different times and cultures. They will be expected to analyse and critically evaluate the works studied and the media used. They will explore and experiment with a range of media and work sequentially through a series of ideas towards two well-considered pieces of their own artwork. On completion of their artwork, students will be required to produce a written evaluation.
Module 2: Externally Set Assignment
40%
The culmination of the A level course is a 15 hour timed test. Students will be given a 6 week preparatory period, after which they will be asked to complete one unaided piece of artwork produced under examination conditions. Two A1 sheets of preparatory ideas, showing evidence of development, experimentation with materials and processes, and a critical evaluation of the images produced, will be submitted for assessment, together with the examination piece. The two modules will be displayed for marking and external moderation in June.
