EXAM BOARD: EDUQAS

What does the course involve:

The Eduqas A Level course assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking over 3 examined modules at A Level. Students will explore aspects of German-speaking society and culture. There is no coursework, with exams taken in Year 13.

INTERESTED IN:

  • Exploring the effective use of a foreign language

  • Learning about the culture of Germany and the German speaking world

  • Communicating with new people

Year 12 Topic Areas:

Families and citizenship, nature of marriage, being a good citizen, youth trends, personal identity, trends in fashion, modern technology, relationships, peer pressure, education and employment opportunities, work and travel; regional culture and heritage in Germany/German-speaking countries and communities; media, art, film, and music. 

Year 13 Topic Areas:

Migration, integration, cultural identity, marginalisation; cultural enrichment; diversity and difference; the positive aspects of a diverse society; discrimination; the making of modern Germany; social and political challenges; reunification; social cohesion; community challenges; economic impact of a united Germany.

Component 1: Speaking

30%

21-23 minutes. 60 marks.

Task 1: Presentation of an independent research project (chosen by student) and ensuing discussion of content.

Task 2: Discussion based on a stimulus card relating to one of the themes studied.

Component 2: Listening, Reading & Translation

50%

2 hours 30 minutes. 100 marks. Written paper.

Stimulus material in German based on the four topic areas.

Listening, Reading and Translation from German to English, and English to German.

Component 3: Critical & Analytical Response in Writing

20%

2 hours. 40 marks.

Essay 1: Based on a literary text.

Essay 2: Based on an additional literary text or film from the prescribed list studied.
