What does the course involve:

At this level, Economics does not require advanced mathematical skills. By its nature, it is linked to the financial, industrial and legal sectors, both nationally and globally. Economics gives students the unique skill of developing a way of thinking about the issues of today. It is a very rewarding subject, which provides an excellent foundation for a range of Higher Education subjects in accountancy, politics and economics.

FOR STUDENTS 

INTERESTED IN:

  • Understanding the use of global resources

  • Analysing costs and benefits of improving patterns of resource allocation

  • How societies choose to allocate commodities and skills

The course is designed to enable students to analyse how the economy of the country is organised and controlled, how this management impacts on our lives and standard of living, and how our economy interacts with the rest of the world. Students will investigate a range of economic issues including: Unemployment, Trade with other countries, Inflation, Globalisation and environmental concerns, Industrial difficulties.

 

The course provides you with a tool kit enabling you to analyse how effectively governments and industry are approaching these issues.

AS Level:

The AS syllabus content is divided into five main topic areas: Basic economic ideas and resource allocation, The price system and the micro-economy, Government micro-economic intervention, The macro economy, Government macro-intervention.

 

For A2 you will study additional content within the same topics.
