FRENCH
EXAM BOARD: EDUQAS
What does the course involve:
The Eduqas A Level course assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking over 3 examined modules at A Level. Students will explore aspects of French-speaking society and culture. There is no coursework, with exams taken in Year 13. Students have a timetabled conversation lesson every week in small groups with a native French speaker.

Component 1: Speaking

What is assessed?
Area of interest: social issues and trends, Political, intellectual and artistic culture
How is it assessed?
Speaking exam consisting of 2 tasks. 21 - 34 minutes with 5 minutes preparation time. 1 task is based on an Independent Research Project.
Component 2: Listening, Reading & Translation
50%
What is assessed?
Stimulus material in French based on the four themes under the areas of interest: social issues and trends, and political, intellectual and artistic culture. Listening, Reading and Translation from French to English, and English to French.
How is it assessed?
Written exam: 2 hours 30 mins.
Component 3: Critical & Analytical Response in Writing
20%
What is assessed?
Knowledge of one literary text and one film from the prescribed list.
How is it assessed?
Written exam: 2 hours.
Topic Areas:
Family life, youth trends, education, employment, cultural heritage, Francophone music and culture, cinema; a French film; Diversity and difference, France 1940 - 1950, the Occupation and Post-War years; a French novel.
