GEOGRAPHY
EXAM BOARD: CAIE
What does the course involve:
Fieldwork on island and in Northern Ireland. There are two exams in Year 12 which, when passed, is graded at AS Level. Continuing studies into Year 13 will allow the award of the full A Level for university entrance. The areas studied are the core geographical concepts alongside contrasting themes of contemporary environmental impact, management and sustainability. The skills introduced and developed are investigative, cartographic, graphical, statistical and those connected to ICT through Geographical Information Systems such as Police.uk, Worldmapper, Gapminder, and Google Earth Pro. AS and A Level students are also supported with online lessons provided by Ballakermeen teaching staff.

The two exams are each 90 minutes long. The question types include short structured and longer essay style questions. There is no coursework component.
The course develops an understanding of global issues and gives the opportunity to acquire a wide range of new skills, all of which will support learning in any Higher Education field or career.
Geography graduates are amongst the most employable. They possess many skills which employers are looking for. The subject develops the ability to combine scientific principles with economic awareness, environmental concern and an appreciation and tolerance of others’ attitudes.
