EXAM BOARD: WJEC

What does the course involve:

This qualification involves completing 3 units of study, incorporating a variety of creative disciplines and utilising traditional creative hand-skills alongside cutting-edge digital technologies. Regardless of past experience, all students must be able to demonstrate creative drawing skills, a willingness to experiment with multiple mediums and excellent ICT skills using creative software. There is a strong emphasis on written critical analysis for which a good GCSE in English Language is expected.

AS Level Unit 1

40%

After a brief introductory foundation period in Year 12, students will be required to produce an extended, exploratory project/portfolio and outcomes based on themes and subject matter which are personal and meaningful to themselves.

A2 Unit 2

36%

Production of a more in-depth critical, practical and theoretical investigative project/portfolio and outcome/s as well as an extended written essay which must clearly relate to practical and theoretical work using an appropriate working vocabulary and specialist terminology.

A2 Unit 3

24%

Externally Set Assignment - This practical examination component requires 2 months of preparatory study that leads to a 15 hour period of sustained focus (across 3 days) in which students will produce a response to an exam-board set context.
